Entry requirements

Who is the course for?

A dry lining fixing professional is expected to have proven skills and knowledge when it comes to the following:

  • Following the specifications and drawings to set out the stud walls
  • How to build and repair metal stud partition walls to the required standards
  • How to carry out 1st and 2nd fixes
  • How to install MF ceilings
  • How to erect walls over three metres high
  • How to build encasements

Taking the Level 2 NVQ Course in Dry Lining Finishing will prove that you meet all the necessary requirements, allowing you to gain a valuable qualification that is highly valued by a wide variety of employers in the construction sector. You will be required to demonstrate the ability to carry out your role safely, whilst working in accordance with site rules and regulations. 

How to achieve

How is this course assessed? It’s a vocational qualification, so you will not have to sit an exam or undertake any classroom-based learning. Instead, an NVQ Assessor will visit you on site to examine you while you work. To complete the course successfully, you will need to gain 33 credits from the following units:

  • Complying with general health, safety, and welfare practices
  • Conforming to productive working practices
  • Finishing dry lining walls and ceilings
  • Moving, handling, and storing tools and materials

The number of times your assessor will visit you on site will depend on a number of factors, such as your experience, availability, and the speed at which you are able to work toward your qualification. You will be able to access dedicated assessor support for 6 months, although most candidates complete their units within 6-12 weeks. This process will be coordinated using a range of communication channels, and your skill and expertise will be assessed using a variety of evidence collection processes. We will work with your needs in mind at all times and will ensure that you are working at a pace that is comfortable for you.
